The Miniature and Curious Collections Museum opens its doors to the public this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The event is planned as an open house fundraiser for the museum, located at 320 N. Richardson Ave.

Once the location of Cobean Stationary & Office Furniture Co., today the building has a new life thanks to displays of miniature rooms, houses and the vintage robot and space toy collection of Howard Vasquez.

Cobean Stationary & Office Furniture Co. was established in 1916 and shut down when owner Leslie McPherson closed it in 2010. McPherson and his wife Ruth Cobean McPherson had worked at the shop since the late 1930s and became owners 1943.

Last year the Roswell Interarts Organization (RIO) stepped in to save the building and give it a new purpose. The building was renovated from the roof down.

This is not the first rescue project for the organization. Its most public involvement was in 2014 when RIO stepped up to save the historic Roswell Motor Supply from being demolished. The Roswell Motor Supply is today known as one of the best event venues in town, The Hi-Q Venue.

This Saturday, local author Marty Fry will sign her newest book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and game designer Matt Bromley is showcasing his games from 1 to 4 p.m.

Guests can win cakes every hour and there is a play area for kids. A variety of foods will be on sale and Peppers Grill & Bar is offering specials during happy hour. Live music is provided by the duo Matt and Sharon, from 4 to 7 p.m.
