A Graveside Service will be held for Avaristo Hernandez Quiroz, 91, of Dexter, NM, at General Douglas L. McBride Veterans Cemetery, Roswell, NM, on Friday, August 10, 2018, 2:00 PM. Avaristo was born on October 26, 1926, to Dionisio Quiroz Sr. and Juanita Hernandez in Ballinger, Texas.  He married Tomasa Villa on October 10, 1948, in Artesia, NM.  Avaristo worked most of his life as a farm laborer in the Pecos Valley area.

He was also employed by the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, NM.  Close to retirement, Avaristo worked for the Town of Dexter. A strong, hardworking man, Avaristo was a jack of all trades; mechanic, electrician and plumber.

He loved to travel and enjoyed visiting all of his cousins in Texas.  Avaristo loved to sing, dance and play his trumpet. In his final years, he loved watching old western television shows, mid-day weekly game shows, Let’s Make A Deal and The Price is Right.

Preceding Avaristo in death were his loving wife, Tomasa; sons: Larry Quiroz, Joseph Quiroz; daughter, Mary Jane Quiroz; parents: Dionisio and Juanita Quiroz; sister, Petra Primera; brothers: Carlos Quiroz, Lonnie Quiroz and Natividad Cabrera.

Those left to cherish Avaristo’s memory are his daughters: Angela (Henry) Cobos, Crispina  (Guillermo) Ruiz, Pat (Chris) Olguin; sons: Jimmy (Concha) Quiroz, Billy (Dolores) Quiroz, Julian (Silvia) Quiroz, Mark (Debbie) Quiroz, Edward (Anisha) Quiroz; four sisters: Paula Orosco, Lupe Franco, Isabel Medina, Adela Trujillo; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Avaristo’s tribute was beautifully written in his honor by his family.
