A suspect was questioned about a stabbing that happened Monday in Midway, but the Chaves County Sheriff’s Department will not disclose the identities of the suspect or victim.

“We have information as to who the suspect might be and we did interview her yesterday,” Chaves County Sheriff Brit Snyder said in an email Tuesday.

He added that no charges have been filed and said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Deputies received a call Monday at 11:03 a.m. about what turned out to be a stabbing. Snyder said a woman was stabbed in the chest and suffered a collapsed lung. The victim was transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Snyder added he believes she was later flown to Lubbock, Texas to receive additional treatment for her wounds.

Snyder said the victim is expected to recover.

The investigation of the incident led deputies to a house on East Darby Road in Midway where it is believed the stabbing took place during what Snyder said he would characterize as a domestic fight.

He added that deputies pulled over the victim and another passenger at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds when they heard they left the scene in a private vehicle to find help.

No further details were disclosed before press time Tuesday.
