Man arrested for battery, eluding a peace officer

A Roswell man was arrested Wednesday on charges of battery on and eluding a peace officer during a rash of vehicle vandalisms on West Mescalero Road.

Todd Vallejos, 31, was detained by officers at about 8 p.m, according to a press release from the Roswell Police Department.

Vallejos faces charges after he kicked a police officer who tried to place him in the back seat of a police unit, according to the release. He later spit in the face of the officer while being taken from the station to the Chaves County Detention Center.

An incident and investigation report filed by the officers, said police arrived in the area after they received multiple calls from residents at about 7:34 p.m. referencing a male in the area with two baseball bats damaging vehicles.

The reports state a passenger window on a 2002 Dodge truck and the rear window on a 2003 green KIA were shattered.

Windows and the exterior lights on a bus owned by Brookdale Senior Living were also destroyed, according to the reports.

Witnesses to the incident flagged down an officer after they spotted Vallejos breaking into vehicles before he ran away on foot, the reports state.

The investigation into the damage done to the vehicles is ongoing, according to the press release.
