Roswell Police arrested a man in connection with a shooting at the area of West McGaffey and Sunset Avenue Monday that left one man shot in the leg.

Tyler Mazac

Tyler Mazac, 25, of Roswell was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting at or from a motor vehicle according to a press release from the Roswell Police Department.

Mazac was arrested after a Chaves County Sheriff’s Deputy found him at the scene of a reported vehicle burglary near the northwest Roswell city limits. The deputy found Mazac was in possession of a gun and after further investigation, the deputy contacted the RPD investigator in the Monday shooting case to discuss the possibility that Mazac might be a suspect in the case, according to the release.

The release states enough evidence was established to link Mazac to the case as the likely shooter. As of Tuesday afternoon, Mazac was being held at the Chaves County Detention Center without bond.

Mazac is the suspect in the shooting of a 38-year-old male outside the Town Plaza Apartments Monday, according to the release.

The victim later told investigators he and another man were in the parking lot retrieving a vehicle they had worked on, when he heard multiple gunshots and was struck once in the leg, and another gunshot hit the vehicle, according to the release.

The victim was later found by police on the sidewalk at the intersection of West McGaffey and Avenida Manna near the apartment complex, the release states. He was later transported to a local hospital for a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound to the upper thigh.

Mazac appears to have not known the victim at the time of the shooting and investigators have not established a clear motive for the shooting, but they believe Mazac may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the shooting, according to the release.

Mazac at the time of the shooting was out awaiting trial on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly shooting a man in the neck in May 2017, according to the release.
