Free pARTy After Hours

The free pARTy After Hours takes place at Roswell Museum and Art Center, 1011 N. Richardson Ave., from 6 to 9 p.m. August’s pARTy will feature art activities by Bone Springs Art Center; there will be science trivia game and prize drawings, a mad scientist photo booth and the Kids’ Activity Zone. Go for the Gold Golf Tournament

Tobosa’s 13th annual golf tournament profits go this year towards the renovation and furnishing of the new Los Pasitos Early Intervention facility. The three-man scramble begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the Nancy Lopez Golf Course at Spring River, 1612 W. 8th St. The cost includes a luncheon and door prizes. Strange But True Tales of New Mexico

Guest speaker Mary Mortensen Diecker will present a talk on the strange history of New Mexico at the Roswell Public Library, 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave., from 2 to 3 p.m. Storytelling has long been a tradition in the Land of Enchantment, helping provide a link between those people and their cultures and conveying the lessons and stories of New Mexico’s past. This presentation is a collection of “strange but true” stories — some humorous, some poignant — that illuminate the state’s history. For more information, call 575-622-7101.

Free Labor Day Concert

The Roswell Symphony Orchestra invites the public to the free Labor Day Concert featuring The Don Turner Dixieland Jazz Band at 5:30 p.m. and the annual music instrument petting zoo at Spring River Park & Zoo, 1306 E. Elks Lodge Charity golf event

The seventh annual Roswell Elks Supporting New Mexico Wounded Warriors Charity Golf event is a four person scramble that starts at 8:15 a.m. at the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course. Breakfast, lunch, range balls and green fees are included. The tournament will conclude with a gathering at the Elks lodge for lunch, refreshments and scoring. World Literacy Day

Join Altrusans as they hand out lanyards to patrons at the Roswell Public Library to promote World Literacy Day. From 1 to 4 p.m., members of Altrusa will be handing out free lanyards at the Roswell Public Library, 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave., to promote literacy during library card sign-up month. Small prizes will be available for young children who visit the library this day. For more information, call 575-622-7101.

Dragonfly Festival

The 17th annual Dragonfly Festival takes place at the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge and Friends of Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge host this unique, fun-for-all festival. All events are free and accommodate the entire family.
