The Historical Society for Southeast New Mexico will host a Historic Book Fair on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Archives Building at 208 N. Lea Ave. in Roswell.

Rare, out-of-print historic nonfiction titles will be for sale. All sale copies are duplicates of books the society already has.

Titles were selected with care, Historical Society representatives said, and the more valuable copies (those signed by the author, first editions, etc.) will be retained for the archive.

The more valuable books, like “50 Years of Roswell History: 1867-1917,” “Roundup on the Pecos,” and “Looking Over My Shoulder: 75 Years in the Pecos Valley” will be for sale on a special silent auction table.

There will also be $5 Mystery Book Bags, which contain three books on a particular southwest subject and a mini Peter Hurd print.

One random shopper per hour will also be the recipient of a free Mystery Book Bag.

In addition to this, published authors of the JOY Writer’s group will be on hand to sell and autograph copies of their works, as will Danielle Gonzalez, compiler of “Never Forget Where You Came From.”

Friends of the Roswell Public Library will also be present with books for sale.
