Roswell man killed in collision on US Highway 285

One person died and three others were injured Friday when a Ford truck collided with a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 285 south of Roswell.

The accident happened at mile post 103 on Highway 285 at about 9:25 a.m., according to a press release from the New Mexico State Police.

The release states the initial investigation shows that Mandingo Mitchell, 30, of Roswell was traveling north on U.S. 285 in a Ford truck, when for unknown reasons he rear-ended a semi-truck also heading north and slowing to turn onto Omaha Road.

Mitchell was pronounced dead by a medical investigator from injuries sustained in the crash. An 18-year old passenger in the Ford and a 46-year old Roswell man, who was a passenger in the semi, were transported from the scene with unknown injuries, according to the release.

The driver of the semi, a 38-year-old Roswell man, was not injured in the collision.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the release. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation and as of Friday no further information was available to the public, the release states.
