Members of the HPAD Dance Team show some care for fellow Roswell residents Saturday morning by holding its first annual “Hope for the Homeless” giveaway in front of a business on East Second Street. Food, toiletries, clothes, blankets, pillows, bedding and many other items were given to anyone who wanted the goods, with efforts made to reach the homeless and those in need. Twenty-six families associated with the team donated the goods. Organizers planned to give any items left after Saturday’s event to the Roswell Homeless Coalition. The competitive dance team of Haley’s Powerhouse Academy of Dance is made up of boys and girls ages 4 to 13, said director Haley Hensley, in the middle of the top row. One of the event organizers, Tonya Herrera, said that the team undertook the effort as way to instill lessons about the importance of giving rather than receiving and having compassion on people undergoing difficulties. “I feel this important because we get so much and the homeless people don’t get half of the stuff we do,” said her daughter, Natalie Herrera. The team also participated in a school supply giveaway earlier in the year.
