Air conditioning system back on in detention center housing unit

0

A lightning strike caused the air conditioning system in one of the housing units in the Chaves County Detention Center to briefly lose power over the weekend.

Clay Corn, administrator of the detention center, said Monday the air conditioning system in one of the units that houses 20 female inmates lost power sometime Saturday night.

County maintenance workers restored power to the system, which was back up and running by Sunday morning.

Corn said at no point were the inmates in life threatening conditions and there is an outdoor recreation area near the unit where inmates could have been brought if conditions became really hot.
