WESST held its 3rd annual Go Latinas Conference Saturday, Aug. 25. Thank you to all who shared their Saturday with us and made it a successful event to reach over 100 attendees.

WESST, as a resource partner for the SBA, appreciates the ongoing support from Alice Mora, Business Opportunity Specialist, with the SBA’s Albuquerque office — she hasn’t missed a single event! We were honored to have Roswell JobCorp provide the color guard, security and set-up assistance. Thank you to our four speakers, Sarah Bradley, JoAnn Palomino, Xochitl Torres Small and Jennifer Tenorio.

We left the day a little different than when we arrived. Our continued appreciation and thanks go to Bobby Villegas for all of his support, both financial and in promoting the event to the community through his radio program. Mr. Villegas secured the location of the event and provided the drinks, a delicious breakfast from Roswell Donuts and a great lunch from Los Cerritos, served by Las Chismosas (Irene Villegas and ladies). Mi Casita once again graciously supplied our coffee bar. Each table was so beautifully decorated by Susie Fresquez of Accent Flowers with fresh arrangements. So grateful for supporters like Norma Campa who provided the tablecloths and the chair covers. Thank you to our entertaining singer, Amanda Sanchez, who sang both Latino music and some oldies.

We also had an anonymous donor who supplied the paper goods — we thank you. And what would Go Latinas be without Becky Blanco providing our music and Socorro Blanco providing those amazing and delectable biscochitos.

In support of our mission at WESST to help people start or grow their business, we invited small businesses in our community to set up tables throughout the building to share their wares or provide information on their programs. Thank you to all who set up tables to share your products and services with our community and thank you for donating a door prize — our winners left very happy.

Lastly, thank you to my staff: Veronica Arias, organizer of the event; Monica Gonzales, Regional Program Coordinator; and Lizbeth Cammacho, receptionist — along with the committee (Kim Vasquez, Sarah Castro and Alice Armendariz). A special thank you to Roseanna Perea, WESST Santa Fe Regional Program Coordinator for making the trip down, providing her many years of experience and helping us with the event.
