The First Annual “Adults & Youth Supporting Youth” Charity Golf Tournament, to benefit the Assurance Home, is scheduled for Nov. 3 and will take place at New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Golf Course.

Registration of teams and breakfast will start at 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start to follow at 9 a.m.

This golf tournament will be the first of its kind, as organizers are inviting and encouraging not only adults to participate, but also extending the invitation to youth ages 13 and above.

A donor has already given funds to cover entry fees for any young person, below the age of 18, who wants to golf in this tournament, organizers said.

Organizers are reaching out to local high schools throughout southeast New Mexico, encouraging them to come and enjoy the event.

Event participants will be supporting local adolescent children who are homeless; have been abused and/or neglected; or who are otherwise considered “at-risk”. Participants will be eligible to win prizes, enter door prize drawings, and take part in a silent auction.

Teams will enjoy food and treats provided by Martin’s Capital Café’, Loveless Regional Hospital and the Golden Corral.

The tournament can accommodate 22 four-person teams and the deadline for team entry is Oct. 29.

The winner’s trophy for the tournament is named for well known philanthropist Terry Chandler. The first place trophy will be known as the Terry Chandler Memorial Trophy.

Chandler, who passed away July 4, 2017. was well known in the National Hot Rod Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Infinite Hero Foundation, and for her support of the Assurance Home.
