Gloria (Stephens) Schellinger, 81, was born on March 6, 1937, to Grace and Arthur Stephens. She was a life-long resident of Roswell, New Mexico. Gloria died peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018.

After graduating from Roswell High School, Gloria soon began working for the City of Roswell. It didn’t take long for her to become in charge of the billing department there. Gloria met her husband, Carl, at the United Methodist Church, and the pair were married in 1957. She then took on the role of housewife and demonstrated her excellence in cooking. Gloria’s pecan pie and cinnamon rolls were a treat to eat! Her kitchen was filled with a variety of cookbooks from which she enjoyed testing recipes. Together, the Schellinger’s loved having large dinner parties with family and friends. Gloria greatly delighted in playing cards, ranging in games from Bridge to SkipBo, and was always quick-witted in her strategies.

Her hosting skills were extended beyond the household, and into different social organizations. Gloria was a member of the New Comers Club in the 1960’s and served as First-Vice President in 1965. She also participated in the Petro Club of Roswell, organizing many events and serving as Vice President in 1972, and as President in 1973. Gloria was also a long-time member of the Assistance League of Chavez County (Roswell).

Surviving to cherish Gloria’s memory are her daughter, Cheryl Nace; son-in-law, Kelley Nace; two granddaughters: Addison and Keifer all of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sisters: Mary Hitt of Dallas Texas, and Janice Marr of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and nieces: Priscilla Lane of Dallas Texas and Crystal Allison of Roswell, New Mexico.

Preceding Gloria in death was her husband of sixty years, Carl A. Schellinger.
