About 100 people holding flowers representing their varied association with the effort to cure and prevent Alzheimer’s made a “colorful display of the intent to care, honor, respect, love and fight” as they participated in the city’s 25th annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s along North Main Street Saturday morning. All told, about 260 online and in-person participants are expected to donate to the group’s largest fundraiser, according to Sarah Bradley, southeastern regional manager for the New Mexico chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Already $36,674 has been raised toward the group’s $60,000 goal for 2018, she said. Donations will continue to be collected until the end of the calendar year. Bradley says the money raised locally is essential to providing such offerings as educational workshops and support groups. “Our walk funds those programs for families and those with the disease,” she said, “because we don’t charge for those programs.” (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
