The Eastern New Mexico University Jazz Ensemble, with Richard Schwartz as director and saxophone soloist in this number, make the sound loud and vibrant as they perform in front of the pros during the Roswell Jazz Festival School held Saturday morning in the Roswell Museum and Art Center. The master class instructors, flutist Holly Hofmann, trombonist Dan Barrett, pianist Michael Francis and drummer Ricky Malachi, chose “On the Sunny Side of the Street” for their performance. (Pianist Roger Dickerson is not shown.) The pros gave some advice to students (listen to a lot of jazz music, learn the well-known songs, become familiar with a keyboard) as well as some specific techniques for the numbers the ensemble play. The 2018 Roswell Jazz Festival began Wednesday and concluded Sunday.
