The Roswell Correctional Center (RCC) started a Dog Training/Adoption Partnership Program on Oct. 24. RCC has partnered with All Hearts 4 Paws Shelter, a no kill shelter, to train shelter dogs.
Inmates will teach dogs basic skills. The program is for dogs that are unlikely to be adopted. The skills will consist of verbal commands, and temperament and obedience training. The goal of the program is to provide dog graduates an opportunity to be adopted and find their forever homes and families.
Inmates will also learn a skill and learn responsibility.
Officials report inmates have embraced the program. RCC is in contact with a certified comfort dog trainer to provide training and certification for future dogs.
RCC officials recognized the following individuals for help establishing the program: Vi Babcock, chief critter care taker; Ruben Benavidez, warden; Michael Brisco, captain; Joshua Carrell, lieutenant; Laura Brown, administrative assistant; and Dan Jennings, RCC/instructor.
