Roswell High School has dismissed students for the day after a power outage that could take up to a day to fix, according to Julie Whitcamp, an assistant in the superintendent’s office of the Roswell Independent School District.

Buses have been routed to the school to take students home, and parents have been notified.

A spokesman for Xcel Energy said a car accident early in the morning on the east side of the school damaged three utility poles and took out power for the entire school campus, which is located on West Hobbs Street.

“Xcel Energy crews have mobilized at this location and have started the process to repair the poles,” said Wes Reeves. “We anticipate having the repairs made by noon, and electricity service to the school would be restored at that time.”

Whitcamp said RISD officials have been informed that repairs could take up to 24 hours.
