Forty third-graders from Nancy Lopez Elementary School took a field trip to the first tee at the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course.

The students just finished the month-long National School Program by The First Tee during their Physical Education classes at school, and the field trip was the culmination of their golf lessons. Under the guidance of PE Coach Ashley Booth and The First Tee curriculum, students learned basic golf skills and fundamentals as well as life skills and healthy habits during the month of October.

For many of the students, this was their first trip to a golf course and the field trip was a great success. The students put their new skills in play on the golf course and joined The First Tee coaches, practicing their full swing, chip and putting skills — and had a great discussion about The First Tee Core Values and Healthy Habits.

The First Tee National School Program is being offered in each Roswell Independent School District elementary school during the 2018-2019 school year.

The First Tee Southeastern New Mexico serves more than 15,000 young people through after school, in-school and summer programming opportunities.
