Pet-adoption events scheduled in November, December

Roswell Animal Services has planned a pair of pet adoption events at which people can find dogs, and maybe some kittens, that are looking to be part of a loving home.

Each adoption event will take place at the Roswell Mall (4501 N. Main St.). The first is this Sunday, Nov. 18, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The second will be Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The availability of kittens will be determined immediately prior to each event.

The adoption fee per animal is $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The new owner will be responsible for planning for the animal to be spayed or neutered. Unsterilized animals younger than six months old have the requirement that the new owner sign a sterilization agreement, confirming the owner will have the animal spayed or neutered once it reaches that age. For animals already six months old but not yet fixed, the animal will be held by the animal shelter for 24 hours so the adopting person can visit a veterinarian to pre-pay for the spay or neuter service. That pre-paid bill must then be shown to Animal Services to acquire the animal. People will also need to present a valid ID to adopt an animal.

New pet owners should also be aware a city dog license and a rabies vaccination are required for all dogs at least three months old.

Operated by the Roswell Police Department’s Animal Services, the animal shelter (705 E. McGaffey St.) is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about adopting an animal or requirements involving licenses and vaccinations, visit the shelter or call Animal Services at 575-624-6722.
