Christmas Fantasy

Vendor applications are now accepted for the annual Christmas Fantasy. Vendors have to guarantee that all their art for sale is handmade. This year’s art show and sale will take place at the Roswell Mall. Set up for the vendors is on Thursday and early on Friday morning. Light & Solar Quest

The double feature planetarium show Light & Solar Quest takes place on Saturday and Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Robert H. Goddard Planetarium at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 100 W. 11th St. On the occasion of the International Year of Light, the optical and optoelectronic enterprise ZEISS has produced a full dome teaser that takes planetarium visitors on a trip to the varied facets of light. The Solar Quest show is a full dome planetarium short feature that demonstrates how the Sun and Earth are interconnected. High quality animations display solar phenomena such as fusion and light energy as well as solar surface features and events. The Light show is seven minutes; Solar Quest takes 11 minutes. CASA Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is an auction featuring one-of-a-kind Christmas trees and decor created and donated by members of the community. It takes place at First American Bank, 111 E. Fifth St. from 5 to 9 p.m. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Chaves County CASA Program’s work with abused children. All donations are tax deductible. Holly-Day Magic Art and Craft Show

The annual Holly-Day Magic Art and Craft Show takes place on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds Commercial Building. There will be unique art, gifts and baked goods for the holiday season. Tickets sold support the youth of our community. Proceeds are donated to the Assurance Home, First Tee of Southeastern New Mexico, the Roswell Police Department Explorer Program and Project Graduation for Roswell, Goddard and Gateway High School. Craft & bake sale

The Bethel Baptist Church, 2420 N. Garden Ave., is having a craft & bake sale with all proceeds going to foreign missions. There will be food items, crafts, holiday items and needlework. Free gift for each customer.

Still Life exhibit

The exhibit opening of Still Life will be in the entry gallery at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 100 W. 11th St. Drawn from the permanent collection, Still Life offers an exploration of the genre. Encompassing a selection of both historical and contemporary New Mexico art, this grouping highlights the variety of RMAC’s collection itself. From B.J.O. Nordfeldt to Robert Ellis, the public will be able to see some compelling works that look at objects through an artistic lens. For more information, call 575-624-6744.

Thanksgiving Dinner volunteers needed

The Boys and Girls Club will be putting on a Thanksgiving Dinner on at 5 p.m. at its location, 201 S. Garden Ave. This will be continuing a tradition that was held for many years at the club, welcoming all people and families in the community. They are planning to feed 300 people. Though they have received many turkey donations, they still need donations of the following items: stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls and green beans. They also need volunteers for that day, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., to help cook and prepare the food as well as to serve that evening. For more information, call 575-973-8643.

Cosmic Origins Spectrograph

The planetarium show Cosmic Origins Spectrograph takes place on Wednesdays and on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Robert H. Goddard Planetarium at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 100 W. 11th St. Cosmic Origin Spectrograph aboard the Hubble Space Telescope allows an unprecedented view into the vast spaces between galaxies that surrounds the Milky Way. The audience joins in the exploration of this hidden universe as the secrets to the origins of the cosmos get decoded. The show covers the basics of spectroscopy at a high level and touches on the processing of galactic and extragalactic gas. Other topics include the use of quasars as background light sources, cosmic evolution and the development of large-scale structure. For more information, call 575-624-6744.

Christmas Railway
