Berrendo Middle School seventh-graders gather to look at fish caught in a trap that New Mexico Game and Fish Department biologist Shawn Denny had placed in a stream at Bitter Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. For the third year, Berrendo science students spent a morning at the refuge north of Roswell learning about conservation, ecosystems, wildlife and plant species, fish habitats and traits, and microbes and organisms living in the water.
