This week’s First Friday event is meant to give downtown shoppers an early taste of Christmas festivities.

The theme is “Merry and Bright Downtown,” with participating merchants and businesses giving away free luminaria supplies.

Shoppers can collect one free luminaria-size bag and one free votive candle from each participating business, while supplies last, so that they could end the night with enough supplies to decorate a sidewalk or the driveway of their home, according to a MainStreet Roswell announcement.

MainStreet Roswell volunteers will be at Reischman Park, 308 N. Main Street, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with instruction sheets, as well as free sand for the luminarias.

Downtown guests can also enjoy live holiday music at the park with artist Marie Manning and food from Kik’s Thai food truck.

Other stores and merchants will be offering activities for children, holiday cookie decorating, snacks and photos with Santa.

Tascosa Office Machines is hosting a youth group that will provide holiday gift wrapping and hot cocoa for a donation to support its football tournament fundraiser. The Humane Society will also have some of its furry friends available for adoption.

A full list of activities for the evening are on MainStreet’s Facebook page or its website, mainstreetroswell.org.
