Chuck passed away on Monday December the 3rd after a prolonged illness. Born on July 1st, 1937 to Floyd and Lois Clayton in Streator Illinois. He was an Auto mechanic by trade and later owner of Lake Sumner Bait Shop in Ft. Sumner, NM. He and his wife Shirley then chose to retire and make their home in Roswell NM.

He had a profound love for his wife Shirley and his dog Allie. In his younger days he enjoyed motorcycles, NASCAR, and anything that went as fast as he did. He drove a stock car when he was younger and drove just as fast off the track. He could tell you every make and model of cars, and owned many, he enjoyed tinkering on cars and RV’s during his retirement. He liked reading about New Mexico history, traveling and exploring back roads, and found some recreation at the casinos occasionally. He was a Freemason for 52 years.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, Roswell New Mexico, brothers Tommy, Atkins, Arkansas, Robert, Tijeras, New Mexico and sister Suzie, Moore, Oklahoma and nine children, seven from a previous marriage. Jeff, Needles, California, David, and Catherine, Washington, Utah, Jim and Amber, Lehi, Utah, Rick and Robyn, Hurricane, Utah, Eleanor and David, Eden, Utah, Patty, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Alan and Lisa, Draper Utah. And two from his current wife of 49 years, Shirley Clayton. Diane, and Mike, Del Rio, Texas, and Denise, and Kenny, Los Alamos, New Mexico. He has 25 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lois Clayton, brothers Jimmy, Frank, Billy, his sister Maudie, and his son Charles “Chucky” Clayton JR. There are no services planned per Chuck’s request. In lieu of flowers, please either give to your favorite charity, or just go buy a scratch off ticket and know he loved his weekly scratchers. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers.
