Teach Plus is seeking educators to participate in the state’s Teaching Policy Fellowship.

Since 2009, the national non-profit has trained teachers to lead improvements in policy and practice in public education. The cohort being recruited now will include 16 public school teachers from around the state. During the 12-month program, fellows will pursue a rigorous course of study in education policy and advocacy and will focus on the issues of importance to teachers, students and parents, such as how to find and retain high-quality educators and ensure that all children in New Mexico have access to early childhood education. Visit teachplus.org/NM to apply.

“As a teacher, I understand the importance and the need to have the voice of champion educators at the table when policy decisions are being made,” said Hope Morales, Teach Plus New Mexico state director, who joined Teach Plus after completing the inaugural Teach Plus Policy Fellowship in the state in 2017.

In addition to the Policy Fellowship, Teach Plus New Mexico this year launched a Teach Plus Network with more than 140 current and retired teachers from around the state. The network provides an opportunity for teachers to stay informed about educational policies and to stay updated on the Teach Plus efforts on key issues.
