Nominations are being sought for the “Teacher of Character” awards.

Teachers in both public and private education, teaching from Pre-K to college-level in Chaves County, are eligible for nomination until Feb. 8. All nominees will be considered for Teacher of Character (TOC) awards. Peers, parents, students, school volunteers and other community members may nominate multiple teachers. Nominations are due Feb. 8 and the award dinner on March 5 will be held at Church on the Move.

According to the nomination form, the TOC Awards are for “outstanding educators who make a positive difference in the lives of our children and our community.” The form also says that teachers display the Character Counts! six pillars of character (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship) in and out of their classrooms.

Character Counts! In Chaves County, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, Lovelace Regional Hospital, Church On The Move, Xcel Energy, New Mexico Gas Company and Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell and more are sponsoring the TOC awards.

For more information, Amy Davis, chairperson of the Teachers of Character committee, or Tim Fuller, executive director for Character Counts! Chaves County, may be reached at 575-622-8333 or 575-626-4495, respectively. Davis said in an emailed statement the event is always in need of additional sponsors interested in offering assistance.
