A local man on Roswell’s Most Wanted list for two charges related to the possession and distribution of child pornography was found and arrested in Oregon Monday.

Todd Wildermuth, public information officer with the Roswell Police Department, said in an email that another former Roswell resident contacted the RPD last week with a tip about the whereabouts of Daniel Mullins, 52.

The RPD contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon, which subsequently took Mullins into custody based on the warrant issued for him in Roswell in December 2016. It is believed that Mullins had lived in Tiggard, Oregon for at least a year before his capture.

He now awaits extradition back to New Mexico to face the charges outlined in the warrant.

In the December 2016 warrant, Mullins was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of children (possession and distribution) for allegedly uploading and downloading child pornography onto a computer and/or other device, according to the June 2017 notice announcing Mullins’ addition to Roswell’s Most Wanted list.

The warrant was issued after a four-month investigation by the RPD and the New Mexico Attorney General’s office.

Wildermuth said in the email, the tip that resulted in Mullins’ arrest illustrates the importance of information the public can provide relative to criminal investigations.
