Chaves County has been given an award for outstanding work on audits.

The award was presented by the New Mexico Counties organization and State Auditor Brian Colón during the NMC Legislative Conference Thursday.

Chaves County received an Audit and Accountability Award for being among five mid-sized counties that had sustained excellence for audits, and having been among those receiving the highest audit opinions in fiscal year 2017. The awards also recognized timely submission of audits.

Two large counties and one small county also were honored with those awards. In addition, Los Alamos County received a “Continued Audit Excellence Award,” while Harding County received the “Most Improved County Audit” recognition.

“As state auditor, it is my honor to celebrate excellence as we express gratitude for our county elected officials and civil servants for their leadership in serving New Mexico’s families by way of fiscal accountability,” said Colón.
