The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a 10-day public scoping period for input on 56 parcels, including some in southeastern New Mexico, proposed for a June 20 competitive oil and gas lease sale.

The public scoping period began Wednesday and will conclude Feb. 10. In addition, a two-week public review and comment period of the environmental documents is scheduled to begin March 11 and conclude March 22.

This scoping process is intended to solicit public input on relevant issues, potential impacts and alternatives that the BLM should address in an environmental assessment to be prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The BLM will consider all substantive comments received during the comment periods.

The proposed parcels are in New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma. Those in New Mexico include five tracts in Lea County, two in Chaves County and three in Eddy County.

Visit the BLM website, blm.gov, for documents.
