Burlington Northern Santa Fe is doing railroad track maintenance and is currently working on tracks running through Roswell, according to information released last week by city officials.

As of late last week, BNSF crews were working in an area between Fifth Street and Second Street.

Motorists should remain aware that when work reaches railroad crossings, traffic detours are required on the streets where the crossings are located.

BNSF has informed the city that railroad workers are covering about a mile a day heading south, working from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. They have promised to attempt to get through with the in-town portion of the project as soon as possible, according to a press release issued last week by the city.

Once they leave the downtown railroad area, the next crossings that could be impacted by the work are on Bland Street and then McGaffey Street/Atkinson Avenue.
