February is Heart Month, and what could be more appropriate for the Roswell Sertoma Club than a talk by Dr. Ashley Rivers, an interventional cardiologist at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center?
Her focus during the Friday event was on cholesterol, its formation in the bloodstream, testing for it and its causes. The consensus of those attending was that this was one of the most interesting and informative presentations the club has had. A Sunday column by Dr. Rivers in the Daily Record covered some of the same information.
The Roswell Sertoma Club is a nonprofit, civic-service organization whose motto is “SERvice TO MAnkind.” In addition to its primary sponsorship of assisting in the purchase of hearing aids and speech therapy to people in need, the club also provides 25 college scholarships each semester, supports various youth activities and other charitable causes, and sponsors the annual Sertoma-Colt Classic Baseball Tournament. It is also the major sponsor of the annual Fourth of July fireworks show. Anyone wishing to join the club is welcome to attend one of its meetings at noon at the Elks Lodge every Friday. Forms to apply for assistance are available on the club’s website, roswellsertoma.org.
