Strong winds in the Roswell area Saturday morning caused a light pole in a parking lot at North Main Street and East Mescalero Road to fall on the hood of a compact car. No one was injured in the incident, according to emergency crews. The National Weather Service issued hazardous condition warnings for southeast New Mexico and the western Permian Basin until about 5 p.m. Saturday for high winds of up to 35 miles an hour, with gusts of 40 miles to 50 miles an hour possible. A “red flag warning” also indicated that dry air moving through the region along with the high winds presented “critical” fire conditions.  (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
