Runners brave strong winds and cold temperatures Saturday morning as they begin the half-marathon of the 38th annual Pecos Valley Stampede at the Cielo Grande Recreation Area. The marathoners include New Mexico Military Institute cadets, some carrying up to 55 pounds, training for the Bataan Memorial Death March to be held in March at White Sands Missile Range. The race put on by the city of Roswell Recreation Department and Kymera Independent Physicians also has 10K and 5K walks and runs and an event for youth. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
