MainStreet Roswell’s First Friday Downtown Market on March 1 will include music, animals and free kid’s activities.

Businesses downtown will spend March 1 celebrating Music in Our Schools Month — and Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Attendees can take a free photo with the Grinch and the Cat in the Hat, who will be visiting various downtown businesses from 5-8 p.m. There will be scheduled readings of Dr. Seuss works at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Tascosa, 321 N. Main.

The Roswell Public Library Children’s Program staff will be at Tascosa with kids’ face-painting — along with some sweet adoptable pets who will be visiting from the Humane Society.

Catness — a Patagonian Cavy who will be visiting from Runyan Ranches Rescue Zoo — can be seen at She’s a Dandy from 5-8 p.m., 302 N. Main.

A Cavy, according to event organizers, is a small exotic animal that looks like it stepped out of a Dr. Seuss book.

A number of other special events are planned throughout the First Friday event.

A full list of participating businesses, including activities, specials and store hours, can be found on the MainStreet Roswell Facebook page, and the organization’s website: www.mainstreetroswell.org.
