Ruth Lea Hamill

Rutha Lea (“Ruth”) Johnson Hamill passed into immortality at her Oklahoma City home on July 6, 2018.  Ruth was born to John Miller and Elza Purcella Johnson in Roswell, New Mexico on March 20, 1930.  She was preceded in death by her life’s love, Eusebio (“Eddie”) Montano of Albuquerque, New Mexico, by her parents and by her brother, John M. Johnson Jr. Surviving Ruth are her sons, Randall Hamill of Oklahoma City, Dr. Dan Hamill of Houston, Texas, stepchildren, Michael Montano and Sandra Montano of Albuquerque, sister Opal Butts of Roswell, and sister Frances Shaver of Sugar Land, Texas.  She leaves behind five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ruth graduated from Roswell High School in 1947 from Roswell High School. Ruth’s keen native intelligence and firm resolve to make a life for her sons propelled her to a successful career in the oil and gas industry.  She began her lengthy career at Malco Products in Roswell and continued with Suburban Propane.  She retired from Sandia Oil in her beloved Albuquerque. No two sons ever had a finer mother.

In accordance with her wishes, her remains were cremated and no services were held.  Her ashes will be interred on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 at the Tinnie, New Mexico community cemetery concurrent to those of her late beloved nephew, Dale E. Butts.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory can be made to the Battered Women’s Shelter, PO Box 25363, Albuquerque, NM 87125
