Pecos Elementary students, joined by some teachers and administrators in the background, use dance and music to communicate about mathematics during a rehearsal of “Think: A Math-Magical Journey” Friday morning at Pueblo Auditorium. About 150 Pecos kids have worked for two weeks with the National Dance Institute of Albuquerque and Santa Fe to learn the dance routines. “It is an exploration of how math is all around us all the time,” says NDI Residency Artistic Director Hannah Foss, explaining that the dance segments showed how math is used in music composition, cooking, robotics and telling time. The elementary school has brought NDI to students for about 14 years, said Principal Barbara Ryan. “The kids love dance and they love music,” she said. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
