The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to look for favorable weather conditions and needed crews next week that will permit a future prescribed burn north of Roswell.

Implementation of the 200-acre Nester Ball Prescribed Fire, about 50 miles north of Roswell, will depend on good weather conditions and having the necessary crews and equipment. It is anticipated that the burn will take one day to complete. Smoke might be visible from surrounding communities and nearby roadways. People are asked to exercise caution and avoid areas impacted by smoke.

The objective of this project is to reduce the amount of vegetation available to wildfire. Other goals include improving the watershed and wildlife habitat, and increasing the health, vigor and competitive ability of native plants.
