Walter Lee “Babe” Canady, 76, passed on Monday, March 11, 2019. Please take a moment and share a fond memory or kind expression of sympathy for Walter’s family at www.andersonbethany.com.

Walter was born on August 22, 1942, in Caldwell, TX, to Hallie Minton Canady and Arlean Canady. Throughout his life he was a hardworking, godly man who had a smile that would light up the room. In his early years, he was an oil-field man who ran his own pulling unit, despite his 8th grade education. On December 19, 1972, he met and married his wife of 46 years, Billye Francis Washington Canady in Odessa, TX. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hobbs, NM, and gave birth to Frederick and Kiri Canady.

In 1989, after retiring from the oil field, Babe started a restaurant business in Roswell, NM, called Babe’s Bar-B-Que, which is well known to this day. He was famous for the warm hospitality that he offered each and every customer. In 1997, Babe became a member of Gateway International. In 2007, after closing his restaurant, he began working for Pecos Trails Transit until he retired in 2018.

Surviving: Babe is survived by his two sons; 6 grandchildren; brothers: Edward, Dennis, Joe, Chester, and Willie; and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
