Isaac Sheets, second from right, with the green beard, stands with family and friends at the start of the first annual St. Paddy’s Day Race Sunday morning at Cielo Grande Recreation Area. “St. Patrick was known for bringing the community together,” he said, “so I thought this day was a good time to support the local community and bring people together for a good cause.” The event was also sponsored by Cerritos Mexican Kitchen, Antiqua Restaurant, Papa Murphy’s and Chef Toddzilla. Local businesses also had booths at the event. General Airframe Support, which Sheets heads as president, and the participants in the run and walk raised $2,500 for the Roswell Homeless Coalition, which provides men’s and women’s shelters and support services for those experiencing homelessness. Sheets said he intends to hold the event each year, choosing a local cause or charitable organizations for the fundraising efforts. Others with him are from left, Sophia Sheets, Angi Sheets, Jeremy Sheets, Tonnette Sheets and Carolina Castaneda. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
