Mike Lee, wing commander for the state of New Mexico of the Civil Air Patrol Air Force Auxiliary — pictured right with Club President Bud Hewett, left — spoke at the latest Sunrise Optimist Club meeting. Commander Lee gave an enthusiastic, fact-filled and informative talk. Lee was one of the best and most enthusiastic speakers we have had in a long time.

The Civil Air Patrol was chartered by Congress in 1941 with three objectives: airspace education, emergency service, and a cadet program for youth development. Today there are 400 adult members and 480 youth or cadet members in New Mexico.

If you would like to hear our community leaders speak about their particular areas, or find out more about the Sunrise Optimist Club in its efforts to make Roswell a better place for our youth, join us any Wednesday morning, 6:45 a.m., at Lovelace Hospital cafeteria or contact membership chairman Roger K. Burnett at 420-9420.
