Parks and Recreation plans race at the zoo for May

The city of Roswell Parks and Recreation Department will host the Race at Spring River Zoo Saturday, May 11.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Spring River Park & Zoo, 1306 E. College Blvd.

The event offers a competitive 10K run, 10K walk, 5K run and 5K walk. Participants will compete in nine age divisions for both men and women. Age divisions are 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-70 and 70 and over.

Overall winners, male and female, will receive awards. First- through third-place finishers will receive medals in each age group. T-shirts will be given to all participants and drawings for door prizes will take place following the race.

Entry forms are available at the Roswell Adult and Recreation Center at 807 N. Missouri Ave. or online at active.com. Registration on race day will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Spring River Park & Zoo. Packet pick-up will be May 10 at the zoo from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., or on race day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The pre-registration entry fee for the runs or walks is $30 through May 10 or $35 on race day.

Sponsors for the event are Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Agency, New Mexico Mounted Patrol, Chaves County Search and Rescue, Pecos Valley Amateur Radio Club, Noisy Water Artwear and Peppers Grill & Bar.
