Billie Marie Freiberger (Grantham) died peacefully in a care facility in New Braunfels, TX, on October 22, 2018 at the age of 92. Billie is survived by her sons, Brian (Ann) of New Braunfels; Brent of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, of Longview, WA; her daughter, Jana, of Longview, WA; and sister, Mary ‘O Trammel, of Belen, NM.

Born on October 28, 1925, in Roswell, NM, to Virgil and Mildred Grantham, Billie graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in 1947 with a degree in Elementary Education.  She married Dale Freiberger in 1947, and then taught first graders from 1963 to 1985, primarily in Carlsbad, NM and Sheridan,WY. Billie was well-loved by staff and students, who all keenly felt her absence upon her 1985 retirement.

During their 64–year marriage, she and Dale traveled the world extensively, visiting six continents and 39 different countries in his capacity as a Best Western Director. After Dale’s 2012 death, she felt the need to continue her work with young children, and worked as a volunteer with struggling students in Longview, WA.

A graveside service will be held at South Park Cemetery in Roswell at 10:30AM, on April 6. There will be a reception/luncheon at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Ste. 2110, NY, NY, 10122, or to your favorite charity.

The family would especially like to thank the caregivers at Elan WestPointe, Eden Hill, and Hope Hospice in New Braunfels, TX for the compassion and care they provided for our mother.
