Walter Lee “Babe” Canady

Walter Lee “Babe” Canady was born August 22, 1942 in Caldwell, TX, to Hallie Minton Canady and Arlean Canady.

Throughout his life he was a hardworking Godly man, who had a smile that would light up the room. In his early years, he was an oil field man who ran his own pulling unit despite his 8th-grade education. On December 19th, 1972, he met and married his wife of 46 years, Billye Francis Washington Canady in Odessa TX. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hobbs, NM, and gave birth to Frederick and Kiri Canady. Before his marriage he had two daughters from a previous marriage named LaShay and Tanya.

In 1989, after retiring from the oil field Babe started a restaurant business in Roswell, NM called Babe’s Bar-B-Que, which is well known to this day. He was famous for the warm hospitality that he offered each and every customer. In 1997 Babe became a member of Gateway International. In 2007, after closing his restaurant, he began working for Pecos Trails Transit up until he retired in 2018.

The Sunset on Babe March 11th, 2019 and he is survived by his two sons, two daughters 9 grandchildren,  Brothers, Edward, Dennis, Joe, Chester, and Willie, and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
