The body of a man from Dulce was found Friday afternoon in the backseat of a pickup truck in a parking lot in downtown Roswell, where the vehicle is believed to have been parked for at least two weeks.
Kenny Vernon Monarco, 47, was found dead in the back of an unlocked black 2005 GMC Sierra in the parking lot of Peppers Grill & Bar on North Main and West Sixth streets, according to Todd Wildermuth, public information officer for the Roswell Police Department.
Police received a call at about 3:30 p.m. Friday from someone in the parking lot who said they smelled a strange odor coming from the pickup, he said.
Further investigation after Monarco’s body was found revealed the pickup was registered to Monarco’s mother.
Monarco left for a trip to Albuquerque at least two weeks ago and his family had been unable to determine his whereabouts since then, Wildermuth said.
Roswell police are awaiting the results of an autopsy conducted by the state Office of the Medical Investigator, but the initial investigation by RPD officers and the medical investigators at the scene did not find any evidence of foul play or criminal conduct related to Monarco’s death.
