Military pilots soon to take off

Mayor Dennis Kintigh, standing, talks with military trainee pilots and pilot instructors at an AV Flight hangar Thursday afternoon prior to their expected departure from Roswell on about April 10. The pilots are part of Training Wing 4, a unit of the U.S. Navy Chief of Naval Air Training Command based in Corpus Christi, Texas and have been flying at the Roswell International Air Center since late January. Lt. Comm. Stephen Williams (not pictured) said the good weather led the group to extend their time here by a couple of weeks. The “farewell” luncheon to thank the pilots, instructors and maintainers was attended by members of the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation and the Roswell Chamber of Commerce, as well as elected officials and city staff. Also seen talking with the pilots is RCCEDC member Larry Connolly and Dr. Shawn Powell, president of Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
