Deadline arrives this week for scholarships

Sunrise Optimists’ Vern Stahl Memorial Scholarship

The deadline is Wednesday for the Vern Stahl Memorial Scholarship. Entries must be received by 3 p.m., April 17, 2019. Applications must be back in the counselor’s office at that time. The winners will be announced in May at the awards assemblies at the respective schools.

The Sunrise Optimist Vern Stahl Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating senior from both Roswell and Goddard high schools. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, community involvement, school participation, work experience and need. Applications are still available for the scholarships at any of the three guidance counselors’ offices.

The Sunrise Optimist Club of Roswell has awarded almost $40,000 for the past 18 years since its conception.

Alpha Theta’s scholarship for women in education

Completed applications must be received by Thursday for the Flo Starky/Tonya Hoskins Memorial Scholarship.

The Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is offering this scholarship in the amount of $350 to senior high school women who will be pursuing a college degree in education.

Such students from the Roswell high schools (Early College High, Goddard High, NMMI, Roswell High and University High) may apply.

This scholarship is renewable for four years if the requirements are met yearly. Interested applicants may receive the necessary forms from their appropriate high school counselors.

Deadline for submitting a completed application is April 18.
