A local man wanted in connection with a Tuesday evening shooting that left one man injured, was arrested Thursday morning.
Thomas Leyba, 42, of Roswell, was arrested at about 11:45 a.m. Thursday at a 300 block of West Eighth Street residence, according to Todd Wildermuth, public information officer for the Roswell Police Department.
Leyba was arrested without incident, Wildermuth said Thursday.
An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Leyba on one count of aggravated battery and one count of possession of a firearm or destructive device. He is accused of shooting a 36-year-old male Tuesday evening at a 500 block of East Tilden Street address.
A press release issued Wednesday stated that investigators believe Leyba and the victim had been arguing in the front yard before Leyba fired at least one shot at the victim.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the victim in the front yard of the residence with a gunshot wound to his chest and unable to speak, an affidavit states.
The victim was then taken to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center where a projectile was recovered from him, before he was flown to an advanced care facility, the affidavit states.
Wildermuth said in an email that the victim remains hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon and is expected to survive.
