Members of the Roswell Roller Derby League and their family and friends help about 40 other volunteers plant flowers and wash windows downtown Saturday as part of Community Planting Day. An annual event for the past five or six years, the effort is coordinated by MainStreet Roswell, with donations of flowers, plants, potting soil, drinking water and trash bags from Keep Chaves County Beautiful. “It helps increase the economic value of property when things are beautified, and attractive stores help draw customers,” said Kathy Lay, MainStreet Roswell executive director. “Our ultimate goal is to boost the economic vitality of downtown, and one of the ways we do that is through design and beautification.” Volunteers came from several community organizations, including Pioneer Bank, the Home Garden Club, 4-H, the Unity Center, local churches and Leprino Foods Co.
