City updating protection plan for water supply

The draft of the city of Roswell’s updated Source Water Protection Plan is now available for public review and comments.

This plan, which addresses Roswell’s water supply for wells and domestic water, is a joint effort between the city and the New Mexico Environment Department. The draft plan can be viewed on the city’s website (roswell-nm.gov).

The link to the draft document is found on the Engineering Department page.

A public-input meeting will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. at the Roswell Adult Center, 807 N. Missouri Ave. Comments may also be emailed to Louis Najar, the city’s director of engineering and infrastructure, at l.najar@roswell-nm.gov.

Najar may also be contacted at 575-637-6281 by any citizen wishing to provide comment or to arrange to view a hard copy of the draft plan.

The plan’s executive summary states: “Through this Source Water Protection Plan, the City is using the assessment of its water sources to develop action items and priorities that will help sustain drinking water supplies for current and future generations.”
