It might be May 3, but the First Friday event organized by MainStreet Roswell and downtown merchants is getting into a Jedi mood, with Star Wars activities, characters and pet celebrities, along with music, food and savings, to go with the theme “May the Fourth Be With You!”

Stop at Reischman Park, 308 N. Main St., from 5 to 8 p.m. for music with DJ Hendawg. Live music at the park will be provided by Edub and Lexy Rose.

Kids of all ages, even grown-ups, can make their own lightsaber for free. Participating businesses will have coupons good for the “make your own light saber” project. After you get your coupon, bring it to Reischman Park to trade for all the supplies needed to make a light saber, while supplies last. We will have everything needed, along with samples and instructions. The list of participating businesses will be posted on mainstreetroswell.org and on the organization’s Facebook page @MainStreetRoswell.

Phi Theta Kappa also will be at Reischman with a Star Wars craft. Make Yoda ears and a Yoda or Chewbacca puppet. Kids in Arts ProgramS (KAPS) will have a table in front of Tascosa, 321 N. Main St. with a Star Wars silhouette art activity for the kids.

We will have costumed characters downtown, including a human Princess Leia, as well as members of the 501st Dewback Ridge Garrison, or Star War characters officially sanctioned by Lucas Films. We also will have an “Instagram Pet Celebrity” from Angel’s Pet Boutique dressed in a little puppy Princess Leia costume at Dara’s Upholstery.

Musician Matt Palmer will perform live music at The Gallery/Main Street Arts. They also will be hosting a free kids’ art project and an art “rummage” sale.

The Chaves County Cancer Fund will be set up in front of Business Notions, 304w N. Main St. Stop by and help them make luminarias for the Walk for Hope. KM Therapeutic Massage will have their massage chair next to Reischman Park as a fundraiser. They will offer chair massages for $1 per minute, with all of the funds raised going to the Chaves County Cancer Fund.

Details and updates will be on MainStreet Roswell’s website or Facebook page.
