One man is dead following a Thursday morning shooting that Chaves County Sheriff Mike Herrington said is the first homicide handled by the Sheriff’s Office in 2019.
The shooting occurred at about 6:50 a.m. at a 600 block Meadowbrook Road residence, according to a post on the Facebook page of the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office early Thursday afternoon.
The 43-year-old male victim was transported to an area hospital, where he later died, according to Lt. Doug Perham of the Sheriff’s Office.
A person of interest in the case was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning, the Facebook post stated.
No further information on the identity of the victim, person of interest or the details about the circumstances that led to the shooting were released before press time Thursday.
Herrington said the shooting is still under investigation and that more information about the case will be released at a later time.
